COVID Houston: This hospital is reporting a 500% increase in COVID admissions as fear of surge increases – KTRK-TV

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK)– COVID-19 cases are on the increase across the nation and inside United Medical Memorial Center, Dr. Joseph Varon said their COVID unit is filling up to a level they have not seen given that last fall.”In the last 14 days, weve had a 500% boost in the variety of admissions,” he said.As the Chief of Critical Care for the UMMC COVID unit, he fears we are embarking on another rise, this time hitting unvaccinated individuals the hardest and even seeing whole families confessed.”We have, for example, the family of a woman that was 90-years-old,” discussed Varon. “They chose to have a big celebration for her and everyone got ill in the household, even the 90-year-old lady. The one common measure in all of them was that everybody was not vaccinated, for one or another reason.”Another lady at a vaccine education pop-up informed ABC13 she is selecting not to get the shot for personal reasons.READ ALSO: Is Houston seeing a mirror image of last years COVID summer season surge?”Im worried about my health issues,” she stated. “So, thats the reason that me, personally, Im not ready to get the shot.”The Houston Health Department provides 4 after-hours vaccine sites throughout the city.On Monday night, the Sharpstown location had just three visits and the other areas were reportedly simply as empty.But hope is on the horizon with a minor boost in vaccinations across Texas recently.
