Young Americans Aren’t Getting Vaccinated, Jeopardizing Covid-19 Fight – The Wall Street Journal

Millions of Americans have rolled up their sleeves to get immunized against Covid-19, but one group is well behind: young grownups.
Their hesitation is a substantial part of why the U.S. missed the Biden administrations goal of getting 70% of the adult population a first dose by July 4, and it is hindering efforts to develop the communitywide immunity looked for to move past the pandemic and ward off Delta and other variations.
Now federal government health authorities are calling up efforts encouraging 18- to 29-year-olds to get vaccinated.
The outreach will have to overcome the hesitancy of lots of young grownups who dont see the seriousness provided their reasonably low risk of severe cases, are alarmed by puzzling details on social networks and usually feel invincible, public-health experts state.
“Its an issue since youths are out and about and social,” said Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health. “Theyre most likely to be engaging with more individuals than a 75-year-old” and might spread out the virus if they arent immunized.
