So-called Delta variant of COVID-19 detected in Hawaii, DOH says – Hawaii News Now

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii health officials reported the existence of the latest COVID version in the islands Monday. The DOH said routine genome sequencing security performed by the State Laboratories Division found the SARS-CoV-2 variant B. 1.617.2– also understood as the Delta variation– in an Oahu individual.Officials stated the person was totally immunized versus COVID-19 prior to traveling to Nevada in early May, around the time the variant was being reported in that state. When the individual returned to Hawaii with an unfavorable COVID test, DOH said the person began experiencing mild signs and later on evaluated favorable. That person along with their close contacts were put into quarantine.Officials said there are no signs that home transmission happened, or secondary cases were reported. The Delta version, which was initially reported in India, now makes up about 6% of all cases in the U.S., health officials said.”Early evidence recommends the Delta version may spread out more quickly than other SARS-CoV-2 strains,” said State Laboratories Division Administrator Edward Desmond.
